The Dale Ball Trail System
Trailhead at Intersection of Hyde Park Rd & Sierra del Norte
This trail is a prime hike for first-time visitors to Santa Fe. You can make your loop as short or as long as you want. For example, Loop 1,2,3 takes about 1hr 15 min. This trail is very beginner-friendly and not very technical. The Dale Ball Trail system is a 22-mile network of trails in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Located a short distance from downtown Santa Fe, it is the quickest way to get from the city into the mountains. It offers great opportunities for beginners and advanced hikers alike, along with amazing views of the surroundings. Leashed dogs are allowed on the trail.
Cerillos Hills State Park
This hiking trail system in Cerillos Hills State Park features both fascinating history for New Mexico’s mining history and stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. The park boasts 5 miles of trails that leads you through the mines and offers gorgeous views of the Ortiz Mountains.
Diablo Canyon
Diablo Canyon is a dog-friendly hike near Santa Fe. The moderately difficult hike can be expected to take just over 2 hours and is a 5.9-mile out-and-back style trail. Expect sandy terrain as you walk along this scenic trail!
Nambé Badlands
The Nambé Badlands is a 5.9-mile loop trail. It is a moderately difficult trail that is fairly exposed so bring plenty of sunscreen and water! You’ll enjoy plenty of scenic terrain and can expect to spend just over 2 hours on this Santa Fe area hiking trail!
